Back in 06, I think, Venus had planned to play San Diego, and I think Serena had asked for a wildcard. Then Serena withdrew, after getting the wildcard, and Venus withdrew because she injured her wrist practicing in L.A.--the same wrist injury that kept Venus off the court for the rest of the year except for trying to come back too early in Luxembourg in the fall.

When Venus withdrew, Raquel Giscafre was prompted to state on the record that, if "the Williams sisters" entered the tournament the following year, they would be rejected. It was a prevalent feeling at the time as, after all, no injury involving a Williams could possibly be legitimate, right? They were all bogus.

Which prompted me to call the WTA Press Officer pretending to be a reporter to inquire as to the legality of such an action and how such as statement could be consistent with WTA rules. The Press Officer called back and said Giscafre did not have the authority to make such a decision. The next day, Giscafre offered up an apology that had about as much sincerity as one of Earnests Gulbis' prostitutes.

I hate her guts. I think it was you, Amie, who once said that, if you were walking down the street and saw Rudy Guliani laying on the sidewalk, you wouldn't step over him; you'd step ON him. That's how I feel about Raquel Giscafre. Pure evil.
When I saw the name I got a bad taste in my mouth but I couldn't for the life of me remember why the name was so familiar.
