They didn't want to expose the queen to Serena's arm-action-heavy curtsy, I guess.

That was pretty funny. My arm doesn't go that fast. I wonder what would happen if a woman bowed instead of curtsy-ing

It's funny actually, because Caroline basically curtsies to the four sides of the court after wins, so she'll be prepared.
