I don't care what his ranking is- Gastón Gaudio (and all former champions) should NOT be made to try to qualify.
I'd say they should. If there game is that far off, why should they take the place of someone more worthy in the draw...who might have a better chance of doing something? This ain't golf where a 60 year old is going to be in contention.

And if you allow all former champs in...what if some old retired champ decides he wants in on a lark...say Bjorn Borg decides he needs some money and demands a spot in the draw.
