Shvedova has challenged players like Azarenka and Sharapova this year, and beaten middle names like Vaidisova, Stosur, and Hantuchova.

I don't know much about McHale except that she just had a good win and the crowd will be behind her. That could be all it takes to challenge Sharapova these days.
McHale was the girl from this year's AO who lost 9-7 in the third to an Aussie wild card in the first round. It was in the heat, and both were cramping miserably, and ESPN played up the juh-RAMA.

I only remember this because I met and talked to McHale when I was at the tournament the next week after she won the girls' doubles title. I told her everyone back home watched her in the main draw and was so proud of her (blatant lie).
