Andre Agassi comes to mind. It took him about a year and half to get back up to the top in men's tennis after his long break. But in the WTA, a former top player returns and immediately gets in the top 10 and in Serena's case in the top 5 in just a span of 6 months. To me, there is something wrong with that picture.

You can't compare Andre's being gone with what Serena did! Agassi left the tour completely but didn't leave tennis. He went back to the challenger levels until he got himself straight as soon as he came back...he was in winning form

He didn't really take "a year and a half" to get back in winning form, he actually left the tour and then came back and started winning again. He plowed right through the ATP.
