*Venus is officially the Bryan Brothers of women's tennis. Great, great players although even the twins have the career Slam. That can never be taken away from them. But, coulda/shoulda been so much greater. Some spectacular wins. But, when push comes to shove- they just don't QUITE have the fire needed to be truly transcendent on, say, the Roger/Serena level.

*Of course, if some of those damned heifers had beaten Serena in the Slams when they had freakin' match points.....I coulda re-thought this Venus Not Quite Being Transcendent deal.

Venus losing today means any, some and/or all of the following. Take your pick- and, LET'S ALL HAVE FUN WITH THIS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR :

a. No way in HELL someone who is as great as Venus is on grass should have lost this way. I don't care what Serena did- she should at LEAST have won the flippin' first set. So....
b. Venus flat-out choked.
c. Venus just did not care enough.
d. Venus doesn't have the necessary fire.
e. Venus wanted Serena to win more.
f. That damned knee of hers is even worse than we had feared. Which means that:
1. She'll play the rest of the year, and just play crap. IF YA SEE V PLAYING A BONDARENKO IN THE US OPEN- GO WITH THE BONDARENKO!!
2. She'll get a knee operation. See ya at your 2nd round loss at the Aussie 2010, V!
g. Congratulations, Stubbs and Stosur, Your 2009 Wimbledon Women's doubles champions. (Hint: Start out hitting everything at V.....)
h. Conversely, V will play gloriously in the doubles final, just to truly rub her fans' noses in what COULDA been....
i. A TAT-ite has a twitchy-typing-finger right about now, wantin' to let me know that I'm being far too tough on V. I know. We V-Fans know. Doesn't help.
j. Hell, even I didn't have the heart to post this in the "Sisters (etc.) are Washed Up" thread.....

In the long-term- V's great wins (remember: she won the end of years last year- and NO V-nut thought that would ever happen....) will more than soothe me. And it is ridiculous that this one hurts me as much as it does. OH, well. I truly never will learn. It WILL be interesting to me to find out who my next victims stalkees favorite players will be. (Albeit, there have been numerous years- see: era, Steffi and Pete- when I didn't have huge favorites. Which IS even sadder for me.)

i. Edit: Nelslus will read the following T post, "Stubbs/Stosur break on Serena's serve to go up 2-1. Serena not in it yet," and realize that he had not properly factored in that Serena might decide to suck in this, just so that we V-nut fans can have our noses' rubbed in with what COULDA been in yet an entirely different way- AND so that V walks away with nothing from 2009 Wimbledon.
