This is an example why I kind of like the way Wimbledon does seeds. Maria surely ought to be seeded despite her...ahem...abysmal ranking. Go subjective seeding!

I might agree with you, had Kim not come into IW in 2005 with a ranking in the 130s and proceed to win 7 matches in a row to take the title. That event convinced me that players should play from where they are ranked, and not based on the subjective whims of a committee.
