Default ATP Tour adds Malaysian Open
LONDON -- The Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur has been added to the men's tennis calendar in September, the ATP Tour said on Friday.
Prime minister Najib Razak officially launched the event, which will start on Sept. 28 and be played at the 16,000-capacity Putra Stadium.
The Malaysian Open joins the Thailand Open, China Open, Japan Open and Shanghai Masters as Asian events on the ATP Tour schedule.
"There is great demand for cities to host ATP World Tour events and in particular within the Asian region," said Brad Drewett, CEO of ATP International. "Kuala Lumpur presented a very strong application to become part of the ATP World Tour."
