I think the article states some unfortunate but obvious facts about the WTA. For dyed in the wool tennis fans - most of us here - we do care and no matter how we feel we'll be watching.

I don't blame Dinara and Sveta for their "lack of charisma" with the general sports public. The blame falls squarely on the tour and the image makers for promoting only one woman as opposed to promoting the WOMEN of the tour. Some of you know I've been ranting about this for a couple of years now. There is nothing wrong with either woman. They were just not labeled "golden" and made the face of the tour. I shudder to think what would have happened to Steffi Graf or Monica Seles in today's "image is everything" environment.

The lack of butts in the seats is a direct result of the skewed marketing practices of the WTA over the last few years.

The other problem is the tennis factories academies which have produced a crop of young women who fit the same mold. They play alike, look alike, and while they're competitive watching them is boring. There is no nuance, no personality in their play. Kim Clijsters just talked about this in an interview with the BBC.

I followed the RG Twitter alerts and updates this time. They always talk about seats being available the day before an event and this is for both Friday and today. I know that they said there are seats available for tomorrow. I'll have to see if they say there are seats available for Sunday.
