Could someone explain to me how the 4 Rome SFists will get a bye? Just stick a bye in the draw no matter where they are in the draw?

Madrid have a Saturday start while the Rome semifinals are Friday so therefore the byes. First round for the WTA is Saturday and Sunday.

So by "bye" they are meaning essentially a day of rest/starting Madrid a day "late"???
