Tsonga's backhand is pretty awful. He can hit it for winners in a very small strike zone. As for variety, he can slice every now and then, but so can Roddick. He doesn't have much variation as far as topspin or flattening the stroke out, though.

If he did, then wow, he'd be a major contendor instead of one in a series of surprise finalists at the Australian Open.
I think awful is a bit too harsh. I'd say his backhand is mediocre at worst. But his backhand is not his problem. The guy has had the worst trouble staying healthy.
