After her 2005 comeback, which of course wasn't nearly as long as this layoff and didn't involve nearly getting ripped in half as the result of childbirth, I put nothing past her. Especially in light of what a mess the WTA is right now.

The only really big difference between then and now is that Serena is no longer on a professional walkabout. Other than that, I see no major barriers. And Justine's not in the picture, either. I think the prognosis is good.
