Margaret Court is really talking:
Tennis women show more Skin than Skill
January 10, 2009 06:00pm
MODERN female tennis players are showing more skin than skills, says WA tennis great Margaret Court.
Many in the crowds at Perth's Hopman Cup were wowed as much by the flesh and fashion on the courts as they were by the action.
France's Alize Cornet wore one of the most revealing outfits, sporting a see-through, low-cut dress.
Court said today's attire made women tennis players ``look like they should be on the beach'' instead.
``I just don't think the tennis court is the place to be everything clingy and showing everything,'' she said. ``But that's just me. They'll probably call me old-fashioned.''
A three-times Wimbledon singles champion with 62 Grand Slam titles to her name, Court retired in 1976 and remains the winner of the most major championship titles in tennis history.
She said women's tennis always had an element of fashion, but now focused on being ``revealing''.
``There came a time when the fashion started to look quite nice and now they've gone overboard and it's more revealing,'' she said.
