Maybe this is a thank-you to Meghann for pitching in last year (when Serena couldn't make it for the first match) ?

And a big middle finger to the rest of the country? Eh, she was probably the only one not committed to another tournament. Has she even played a match since that one last year? I would've gone for Melanie Ouden (junior #1) or Coco Vandeveghe (Junior USO winner) before her. And still been disappointed, most likely.
