One could level the same criticism against any religious doctrine, no? Some may find Islamic or Jewish or Buddhist (etc., etc.) teachings equally ridiculous.

And the American Catholic Church is not under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Church. Unless you were referring to another denomination?

I meant the Roman Catholic Church in the USA. And maybe the one in Canada, too

I don't find the teachings or stances of the Vatican ridiculous (though I disagree with many), I find the concept of it and all the opulence there ridiculous, and objectionable. The whole thing just strikes me as a big power trip on the Holy See's part. I think dioceses around the world would be able to survive without the Vatican's help.
