Take out the French, and Gulbis is 14-17 on the year. That's not very good for a player of his talent level.
He had tough draws in the slams this year (Safin, Nadal, Roddick early on), so he couldn't really build on any momentum. This tournament I wouldn't take too seriously, because it's not easy to go from hard to clay within a week or so.

I would look closely during this indoor season, because I think his game should suit those conditions very well.
