I chalk alot of that up to stubbornness on both sides. Shanahan was dead set on him being a nose tackle, and Haynesworth was deadset against playing for Shanahan. Really, when he's motivated, he's got the skill set for an awesome pass-rushing end in an attacking 3-4 defense. But even if the Redskins would've been open to using him that way, he was unwilling to try at that point. Bridges were burned.
