This is just a case of selective journalism. Makes the story better if they paint Reid as the bad guy but to say he was singling Akers out is a stretch. The "we can all count, the points would have helped" comment came in response to this question:

How important the two missed field goals were to the outcome of the game?

Even out of context of the question this is a stretch.
