With SNF debacle, there has been instant replay talk on MN sports radio and what to do. There have been issues with it in multiple games, and there are times when ref's appear to be making it up as they go along.

NHL has instant replay, but all reviews go to league office through the power of Satelite TV. With today's technology, this doesnt add time, and it removes the flaw of a ref making it up as he goes along because he doesnt know the rule.

On the other side, how can we have ref's that dont know the rules? AND why are reviews limited if they win their challenges? They only get to correct 3 mistakes?

Bad calls are part of the game, there is human error. Instant Replay hasn't solved that, as their is/has been error in the review.

Does NFL leave as is?
Change to NHL system, all reviews central location?
All reviews booth review, no coach challenge?
Elminate instant replay?

What say you SB land.

I'm in favor of getting the call right, all the time. I've long been a proponent of having an extra ref in the booth - and if an egregious call is missed (regardless of any coaching challenge), it should be corrected immediately.

I understand the hockey system, but I'm not familiar enough with the game to know how/when reviews occur. Is it only on goals?

Whether it's centralized or distributed (an extra ref in the booth), there should also be a squad of refs/experts available for a rule interpretation. Wire in the refs on the field, allow the booth ref to conference them with the league office, and they can all come to an agreement.

The rules should never need to be guessed at.

I'd also suggest that the refs on the field get an iPad-type device so they can see the replays right where they are while engaging in the discussion.
