I don't see how much a team values a player is irrelevant to contract negotiations. That makes no sense.
As we all know rookies are unproven at the pro level. Obviously. Really a rookie contract is based on where selected and how much potential the team who drafted the player feels the rookie player has. If you want to consider how much potential a team feels the player has to be like how much the value him, then yes, there is little irrelevance.
