Guy doesn't need to do that. He has other business ventures lined up and sounds like he saved pretty well.

To me, it'd be like missing husband's retirement party because 'an old friend' was getting married. Sorry, husband trumps friend. He needed support on this.

Family should always come before friends (except when your family sucks)
But that wasn't a retirement party. He comes home a few days before the friend's wedding and says you need to be there. That's selfish.

My friends are my family. My friend's wedding trumps watching my husband do his job. If he loses his job, I support him.

In this case, his wife is struggling with the decision and he makes it for her by saying she needs to be there to watch. That makes his job/dreams more important than her being there to support a friend.

All I know is that I wouldn't want to make that call to anybody I call one of my best friends.
