Federal crimes are always serious crime. I don't think there is a such thing as a federal misdemeanor. All I know is that crossing state lines while committing a crime is one of the dumbest things you could do.

The bottom line is that he started up a Bad Newz Kennels company in order for this dog fighting operation, and brought dogs from across state lines to do this.

That is why its considered a federal crime now.
