The people that I know from that area thought it was a good thing for football to come back to the city, but thought that perhaps there were more important things than sports on the public agenda.

Well, if you just look at it in a black and white manner, I would say fixing poverty and giving people a place to live ranks much higher on the list than football, so I would agree. Unfortunately, it's not black and white.
