Sports Illustrated must be wrong too as they seem to have bothered to issue two covers for that year, one for each of the national titleists.

USC's the 1 - "Trojans claim AP Title in Rose Bowl"

If there's only one credited national champion, apparently the NCAA and Sports Illustrated have yet to be informed.
