This isn't the first time the NFL has threatened someone because they wore something on their uniform that wasn't league-approved.

Remember Manning and the black shoes incident?

I don't understand people's apparent surprise when the NFL does something they've been known to do before. It's just like the Lynch hit. Regardless of it it was a clean hit or not, the players and fans know that if you get flagged for unneccessary roughness, the league is going to review it and almost always hand out a fine.
