Well who is the sucker AGAIN!!!!

We had this sweet boy found in the bushes across from the clinic I work at. He was covered in blood. We thought maybe hit by car with as much blood was all over him. We think he is around 9 months to a year old.

Nope he had a prolapsed penis (stuckout) and it was swollen, infected, and necrotic (dead tissue) in a few areas. One of the Vets was able to put it back in. And do a purse string suture to keep it in. Now we are hoping that we can save the penis so we do not have to amputate.

He was WAY to sweet to send to animal control. They would have euth'd. So he is at my house for the 10 day stray hold! And I am keeping up on the aftercare.

He is on antibiotics (pills and injectable) and pain meds. I have to flush his penis after he urinates. He is running a fever around 103 today. Not eating much I am force feeding. And I have been doing Sub Q fluids.

But through it all he is wagging and still giving kisses and cuddling! I am amazed! If he is not claimed I will hold him until I can get him in rescue.

I have seen it a few times. A young dog will get an erection and the penis will get "stuck". After awhile the penis will swell and then it becomes an emergency.

We "think" his was stuck and he started self mutilating. And that I'd how it became infected. For it to be necrotic like that it had to be like that for a few days.

If we have to amputate. We will have to create a female like opening. The link below explains the surgery.
