What I don't like about all of these laws is that it is so hard to keep a "normal" dog. I have one intact male that I got as a kid and he was never a registered show dog. He's purebred but his eartips wouldn't flop (smooth collie) so we didn't bother. I have never had an oops litter (or any litter). My boys are not allowed outside without human chaperones. We are responsible dog owners.
The problems with these laws is that they are so hard to properly enforce. I see too many of the wrong people being slammed by them. I have a love/hate relationship with them. They make my life so much harder and add so much stress but they can, when implemented properly, help shut down some BYBs.
Someone mentioned rabies laws... I'm still torn on to vaccinate or not to vaccinate but my dogs will ALWAYS be current on rabies. The reason being is that, IF the dog were to bite someone (or, like in my situation, an accidental human/dog collision that resulted in 3 stitches from a tooth) and the wrong people hear about it there is no way for them to know if the dog has rabies or not so, if your dog isn't up to date... you are SOL. They take your dog and slice it open to determine if it had rabies or not. Dude was up to date on his rabies when the aforementioned accident occurred and, even though it was NOT a bite, they STILL had us quarantine him for 10 days... Not that we did since he didn't bite and they didn't take down any official information... when they called back to ask how the quarantine went I got called snarky...
OP, honestly, it is the responsibility of the dog owner to make sure they understand the laws BEFORE moving to make sure that, once there, all necessary issues can be taken care of in a timely fashion.
