I've got an 11-year-old who has a nice natural swing. I'm convinced he could be a good golfer, but he's always had the issue of wanting to immediately be the best at everything. Since he hits bad shots when he plays golf, he's not the best and therefore, has decided "he doesn't like it." Very frustrating for me.
Congrats on your son. If he can find another kid around his age that enjoys playing you'll be set. Additionally, get him thinking about the high-school golf team if they have one. That's a great way to enjoy playing with friends. Whether he does well in the actual tournaments is not really important. He'll likely have a blast just practicing with his teammates.
