I think confidence can even come into play on certain holes. It gets in your head that you just can't hit certain shots. There is one par 3 at my home course it's 150 yards down hill. I used to par or bogey it every time. This year it's been a mess. I think my average score is probably a 5. I've only hit the green once out of about 40 times. Most times it's hazard, trap or even OB.

So yes, confidence is important. I also think over confidence can be your doom.
