My misses are pretty typical, I get out of rhythm by swinging too hard at the top instead of smooth acceleration which causes the club head to get in front of the hands through the ball causing short irons to flare left, high, and short. In other words, I let the wrists be too loose and flip the clubhead.
On good shots, my wrist cock is minimal but necessary for me. Slow back and accelerate through the ball, (never jump at it.) My thought is to hit through with firm wrist and get the hands through the hitting zone in front of the clubhead. When I do it right, the wrists do fire but after hands are past the ball, I don't think about release it is going to happen.
Which leads to my "other" misses. When I have good rhythm, try to hit it hard, and
think about
releasing the club head I get a long hook. Hands get through ahead of the club but the ball explodes long, right and hooking.
Keys for me: Good rhythm, minimal wrist cock, keep hands ahead of club. Problems arise when I get to try to hit hard instead of accelerate or think try to hit hard and release the club.
By the way, if you struggle hitting out of bermuda rough, you probably are flipping the club. (and hitting your next shot out of rough again) I have lots of uh, er, experience with these shots.
