Decided I might look into getting new irons for the upcoming season. My question is, how important is it to get them fit specifically for you? I have a generally average height and size and can play with a set right out of the box, but a lot of places are saying that getting custom fit clubs really really helps your game. Any opinions?

I don't think I want to spend >$1000, but I think that is what I would be looking at if I went with a fit set of Ping G15's. Otherwise, I was looking at the Adams Idea A7 set, unfitted.
