My thought? The FDA, although tax payer funded, gets BIG $$$$ from pharmaceutical companies. Not your standard FDA flunky, but the higher ups.
Fat people are sick people. When I went to my Doctor (OK, it was a nurse practitioner, but there may have been a doctor in the building, somewhere...). I went in for 2 things. Help to quit smoking and help losing weight. I asked for a generic drug to help with the smoking, and was told to use Chantix (that was a waste of tax payer money, to the tune of $600!). The generic stuff (Wellbutrin) would have cost maybe $50? What I do know is that it would have worked. But, there is more money in emphysema and treating for lung cancer.
As far as weight loss help, I just got the sad look and told to diet and exercise (because that has worked so well before!).
It's all about the Benjamin's. The Doctors, the FDA, they only care about keeping people ill, and pumping them full of drugs, to keep the drug companies in business with pill popping sick people!
