Ours definitely know they're still animals, even when spoiled to a certain extent. I tend to think of them more like teenagers, I guess? So they're independent, don't get tucked in, etc, but they're still our "babies" who we treasure and protect the best we possibly can. They still have to follow certain rules and they can't be left alone for long periods of time or they'll get in trouble, hehe.
