My cats and dogs aren't purebreds anyway, so I wouldn't be able to. I don't personally have the time to commit to the training and whatnot either.

Same here. My cat is a calico and Siamese mix. I adore my cat but I barely have time to give her extra attention now let alone training for a competition. That takes real dedication.
