My cat stays indoors during winter, and is outdoors/indoors the rest of the year. She doesn't like the cold any more than I do. I have trained her not to wander into the neighbors yards. She really likes just laying out in the sun. She gets in and out through a window I leave open when its not cold. We've had a mild winter, so she's been out more than normal this season.
