Well american Justice used to be very swift back in the colonial days. And it used to be very tough back in mid 1800s.But not anymore cause of Liberalism prevented cruel and unusual punishments.
Funny you mentioned cruel and unusul punishment. I know this is off subject but now lethal injections are considered cruel and unusual. With dogs and cats it's considered humane. But with humans it's not humane? I don't know.

Well life in Prison aint no punishment. We tax payers have to pay for have that criminal feed, bathe, and access to medical care for the rest of his life. Plus they get free cable TV with Free HBO out of tax payers expense. And get this..If youre on the Heart Transplant list and your insurance denies you for an heart transplant they give it to an INMATE in prison.Ever wonder why that Old man who popped his mailman cause he couldnt afford his medications cause they cost too high? He popped his mailman cause its a federal crime to shoot a federal worker. So he goes to a federal prison so he could get the best health care he could get. Okay, so in Steve's warped way, he's given a new defense tactic to the lawyers.

ACLU lawyer: My client has been suffering from liver disease and needed a transplant. His greedy, soleless insurance company, in order to make huge profits at the expense and suffering of the sick, with the complicity of the Bush administration's effort to kill old people, was told "no" for this basic human need and right. He therefore, had no choice but to off his neighbor with a sawzall in an effort to have what should be his in the first place. He is a product of our money grubbing society and the evil that is the Bush adminstration and a victim of corporate insensitivity. He should not and cannot be held responsible for his actions. We therefore pray the court order that he be given a liver transplant along with $5 million from the insurance company for his suffering. Less 40% for fees plus expenses of course.
