You're not supposed to criticize your own country in front of other world leaders.

It just makes you look bad.

It's like how you're not supposed to argue with your spouse in public.

So if your spouse is going around stealing, lying and killing people, you should say nothing, just go along with it.

Doesn't that make you an accessory to the crime?
