I believe that some Iraqis want it. It is being conducted by the government of Iraq, although it is fashionable to presume that this is nothing but a puppet show by the horrible US.

Will it do more harm than good? Hard to say.

Is it entirely the prerogative of the Iraqi courts? Absolutely.

Do other countries put people to death for far less? Absolutely. So this is not really that farfetched.
