Statements like that are intended to pacify the almost-extremists in their population. The extremists aren't pacifiable in any event.

They're definitely extremists, not almost-extremists.

I'll put it this way. I don't want us to go to war with Pakistan, but if any nation needs an ass kicking, it's Pakistan.
