Recent? As in the last 100 years?
I am just asking as his post makes it seem like running a government means spending money in hard times from savings in good times. Sounds nice but void of any and all reality of the US government finances these days (or otherwise as you suggest.) I am curious if John Drake can produce any year in the past 50 (for example) in which we actually had government save money somewhere (from a surplus you would think) and not spent it under his theory that we could use it on a bad day.
