I met her once...smart woman. Once was enough in the major spotlight for her given the gruelling experience of a Presidential race but she was in the right spot at the right time and got a lucky phone call, much the same way Palin did. Mondale was throwing a 'Hail Mary' pass to get some edge on Reagan in 1984 and, if it failed, would still have some historical milestone and effect behind his race. He still got clobbered, but he did make history with that move and so did she, thereby giving a losing ticket a big and memorable achievement as a social win for the country. People remember the firsts and when it's a good one, all the better. RIP Gerry.
