Bangladesh is one of the poorest and most desperate nations on Earth. Honestly, I'm not surprised this happened.

Yes, the act was thoroughly awful and sick, but you have to remember that Bangladesh is the sort of place where the average person's daily struggle is just acquiring the next meal.

Unfortunately, humans tend to show their worst traits when they are most desperate and when religion replaces a lack of knowledge.

Keep in mind, however, that this is not representative of the average Muslim. This would be considered illegal and utterly disgusting to an Albanian or Turk, for example. I'm sure many Bangladeshis find it disgusting as well.

Now, this kind of thinking will just be ignored. Instead, there will be histrionics and wailing and gnashing of teeth, and pages and pages about all the horrible things that Muslims do/are.

The sad thing is - there are people who do bad things. It doesn't matter what name they call their god/s/ess. For every event you find in one world, there's another event somewhere else, but perhaps not as well televised. One can look at the systematic subjugation of women in the LDS cults in the US as an example of a "civilized Christian nation" that abuses its people, or you can look at these events as aberrations, and recognize that the great majority of the people do good overall.
