I have a lot of problems with all of this.
One side: the "kill the fuckers" side. No. Human life should be sacred in all religions. It's ironic that a horrible death of an innocent is somehow justification for more violence. The community in Bangladesh should realize that this is wrong. The other tragedy is that nobody stood up for this girl. I can’t bring her back, but I would take the lashes for her. I would. I really hate this story.

The other side: I’m tired of equating Judeo-Christian ethics with Islam. I don’t think it is a theological issue, but a cultural issue. “Judge a tree by the fruit it bears”. Do you really think western culture is evil? Do you really think Judeo-Christian theology and culture is evil? Then I would ask you to look at “the fruit it bears”. The United States is the most generous nation in the world. And when Hurricane Katrina happened, who came to support the US? (Rhetorical.) We have a culture in the United States that actually does support women’s rights. We do place a very high value on human life. I like our culture, because of “the fruit it bears”.

I’m not impressed with Islam because of stories like these. I really would take her lashes, it makes me so sad. But where is the outcry. Does anybody in the Islamic community care? Women are your sisters. Women are your mothers.

Sorry. Rape is a crime that I don’t think gets enough attention. And for this poor girl to die for being raped is unforgivable. I really want to forgive these guys, but I’m not quite there.
