That's the thing, he has work outside of politics, outside the spotlight. Plus if he stayed he'd have to spend more time talking to the press and keep on picking at that scab. By resigning immediately, being that he's a fairly low-ranking Congressman, the media will lose interest in his story in a few days. If he stayed in office, they'd go looking for more skeletons.
Who cares about the media? I thought Republicans always scored easy points taking pot shots at the "lame stream" media anyway?

If this were Europe it wouldn't even be a story.

We concern ourselves too much with the personal foibles of politicians rather than how they are actually doing their jobs.
