The one drop rule notwithstanding, Obama’s ‘black’ identity (epitomized by his marriage) has always seemed fabricated and unconvincing to me.

He will likely be remembered by future generations of mixed race Americans with exotic multicultural backgrounds not as 'black' but as a mixed race American with an exotic multicultural background.
