I would suspect that he is the one who brought up the "freeman" issue. Some people just like to argue and by their statements other people form opinions. Much easier path to agree to contract on your own terms. Learn to ask questions instead of make statements; for example, "Does the court have knowledge of any servitude existing that would interfere with my enjoyment of my right of liberty?"
yes, there is more back story to this. I offered some advice that I think would have resulted in a different outcome. Failure to prepare was not a problem, preparing adequately could be argued though.
