good article that starts to explain it - led me to this program (which tracks the user & displays the web analytics) -

so i downloaded the Collusion Visual Cookie Tracker & visited Haaretz - that added about 10 cookies - including a link to Facebook.

and then Jerusalem Post - which has even more adds. 20 more cookies - including a link to Facebook..
