I think if some of these shelters weren't so god damn picky we wouldn't have such a demand for puppy. I mean come on, my local shelter will only allow you to adopt a dog is A. you are home all day, if not you must be able to come home ever 3 hours or you must be able to bring your dog to work. (for puppies, I can understand but an adult dog that you have had a couple years does not need to have someone constantly with them) B. you have past vet references (so you can't be a first time owner?) C. they want $650 dollars (really? I understand vet bills and shelter fees but 650? Some vets around here don't even charge an office fee) and finally D. you must own your own home with more than an acre with a 6 foot fence (I don't think a tea cup poodle really needs this requirement). We need to come up with a disincentive for these BYB. I think that's where shelter dogs come from, right? We didn't qualify. We OWN our own home but because I only had vet references for a horse I guess we weren't good enough,.
