When we're out in public, like around town, I put their 1 inch collars on and they stay on my left, usually a little behind me. But when we're out in the neighborhoods going on an actual walk, they have their 2 inch wide collars on and I encourage them to stay on the end of their leads and pull. But they know the difference between the collars and settings. And if they forget momentarily, they just need a simpe leash correction as a reminder. If we're in a crowded environment, like the festivals we have around here, I keep them on traffic leads. Because I don't trust other people to control their dogs.
