Some of you have spent a lot of thought on your dog's name, and it's not anywhere in their registered name... Is this pretty common?

I named my now 12 yr old bitch Cinder Block, (which is also her registered name) because when I brought her home at 12 weeks old, she was a little solid brick, with very straight legs. I thought of it the minute I set her on the ground, and it stuck.

I named my 9 yr old male Lucius, (also his registered name) but not because of Harry Potter. When the movie Gladiator came out, I loved the little blonde boy that visits "the Spaniard", and I loved his name. I wanted to make sure Lucius wasn't just a fictional character, so I looked him up. Lucius is named after the Roman Emperor "Lucius Junius Brutus" who was was the founder of the Roman Republic in 509 BC. Lucius wasn't even born at the time of that movie, but when Cinder had her first litter, I kept the last male born, and he was a "blonde" brindle, so the movie reference goes too.

My dad and I named his new girl Hemi Cuda (also her registered name) because he's been a Mopar guy since before I was born. A "Hemi" is one of Dodge's most powerful motor, and a "Cuda" is a very sought after Dodge, which is even more sought after with a Hemi in it. The "Cuda" (it was shortened from "Barracuda") is my dad's favorite model, and he's had several of them. So, Hemi Cuda was born.
